09.03.2018 ROCK DUMPING UNDER CO2 AMBITION LEVEL 5

Herbosch-Kiere completed the rock dumping works at the Eastern Scheldt barrier last week, this contract awarded by Rijkswaterstaat and executed under CO2 ambition level 5.

The stone dumping works are necessary to guarantee the stability of the supports. At both sides of the barrier, block mats are protecting the soil against erosion over a width of ca. 600 meters. Close to the borders of the soil protection scour pits appeared and can cause collapsing and damage. To prevent this from happening, we filled the pits with steel slag and quarry-stone using our stone dumping vessel ATLANTIS with support for these works from our crane barge ALBATROS.

During the contract, it was decided that to keep our CO2 emissions to a minimum, all materials would be transported by water to the site, this included all the steel slag and rock.
