01.07.2020 ANNUAL EVALUATION CO2 FOOTPRINT 2019

6,495 tons of CO2 is the total sum of Herbosch-Kiere's emissions in 2019.

For eight years already, we have been committed to reducing our CO2 emissions. And we plan to continue doing so in the coming years.
We calculated our footprint in terms of Scope 1 (88.1%) of the CO2 performance ladder (direct emissions from own fuel consumption), and of Scope 2 (11.9%), (indirect emissions from electricity consumption).

For the 2019 calculations, we took 2017 as the reference year. The necessary efforts are being made to emit 0.5% less CO2 each year in the coming years.

Our emissions vary greatly from year to year. This is due to our vessels Atlantis and Albatros. These, together with fuel oil consumption on our worksites, remain the two largest sources of our emissions. The Atlantis represents a large share of the consumption during 2019, because it was used on projects in the Oosterschelde and then in La Réunion.

Worksite fuel consumption is in line with previous years. We need electricity on our worksites, for which we often use generators.

We have already implemented various initiatives to reduce our CO2 emissions. For example, our HUB in Ghent came into service, an old drilling machine from our foundations department was replaced by a new one, vans running on CNG were purchased, a windmill was installed on the Beaver, ...

In addition, at the end of 2019 the old (fuel oil) heating plant for the warehouse was replaced by an installation running on natural gas. For 2020, Herbosch-Kiere aims to purchase only green electricity (produced in Belgium).

We continue to look for changes that can make a difference. Reducing CO2 emissions is a continuous process!
